Steve Walls Trophy

Winners 2013

The Steve Walls Trophy was presented to Carnoustie Golf Club by the family of former member Steve Walls, who died in May 2013 at the age of 44. Steve, along with his father Terry and older brother (also Terry) was a keen and active Club member.

The Steve Walls Trophy is competed for by teams made up of adult and junior members, and was first played over the Buddon Links on Sunday, 20th October, when the winners were the team comprising Vice-Captain Bill Thompson, Junior Captain Jake McWalter and junior member John Porter.

Hole-in-One

HOLE-IN-ONE: On Saturday, 5th October, Frank Johnstone holed in one at the 170 yd. 13th hole on the Carnoustie Championship Course using a rescue club. His playing partner was Ally Hall.

Seniors Area Team Championship

The Angus team, including Carnoustie GC member Alan Kennedy,  playing in the Scottish Seniors Team Championships at Murcar on 19th September, came second to Glasgow by the small margin of three shots over four counting scores.

Carnoustie Seniors Open

Carnoustie GC member Alan Kennedy continued his good form this season, winning the Carnoustie Seniors Open, played over the Burnside course, with a scratch score of 70.

The Steve Walls Trophy, which is to replace the TSB Salver for Junior/Senior competition, has been donated to the Club by the family of late member Steven Walls, who sadly died in May of this year. The family are also to provide prizes for the annual competition, initially for ten years. On Sunday, 18th August, the Club juniors defeated a team from Leven Thistle GC by 3 matches to 1 to win the Jimmy Logan Trophy. Photo shows both teams after the match with Junior Convenor Ian Macgregor.

Carnoustie Juniors win CAM Trophy

CAM Trophy winners 2013

On 31st July the Club team of Junior Captain Jake McWalter, Will Porter, Craig Adamson and Jamie Connelly won the CAM Trophy played at Carnoustie against teams from Monifieth GC and Arbroath Artisan GC.  Photograph shows (l to r) Will, Jamie, Jake and Craig. This was an excellent achievement which brought to an end Monifieth’s run of five wins in a row.

Carnoustie GC retain Anniversary Trophy

The annual Anniversary Trophy match took place at Ballater yesterday (Sunday, August 25th). The match was drawn 6-6 and, as Carnoustie won at home last year, they retain the trophy. The weather and course were excellent and a good day (and night!!) was had by all.

Stuart Norrie’s Hole-in-One

On Saturday, 24th August, Stuart Norrie holed in one at the 170 yd. 13th hole on the Carnoustie Championship Course using a 5 iron. His playing partners were Alex Anderson Snr, Alex Anderson Jnr and Martin Low.

Keir McNicoll wins Shotts Young Pros Event

Carnoustie Golf Club member Keir McNicoll, Assistant Pro at Gullane, achieved one of his best performances as a professional in winning the Shotts Young Pros’ 54-hole Order of Merit event. After a level par opening round, Keir shot two 67s to finish with a six-under score of 204.

Well done Keir!  Now you need to play in the Sandy Pipey Assistants at Royal Dornoch – a true test of links golf  at its best.
